Background: So many elderly patients suffer from disability and dysfunction in perform daily activity specially after surgery, they can increase their functional capacity and Quality of Life (QOL) with participation in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs (CPRPs).The main goal of this article review is evaluation and discussion about the amount of regards to importance and performance of CPRPs effects on elderly QOL.
Methods: Every available guidelines, references and papers have studies for evaluation the CPRPs effects on left ventricular ejection fraction, ventricular contractibility, cardiac output, functional capacity, Vo2max, anaerobic threshold, health related QOL improvement for elderly participants.
Results: Most of the studies justify and accentuate that participation in CPRPs will improve elderly patients left ventricular ejection fraction, ventricular contractibility, cardiac output, functional capacity, Vo2max, anaerobic threshold, health related QOL and decrease at rest heart rate, systolic blood pressure, rate of pressure product, mortality and morbidity. Participate in comprehensive cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation programs have better effects than exercise base programs. The main parts of every CPRPs contain risk stratification, Vo2max and anaerobic threshold measurement, exercise prescription and participate in life style change classes. Commence inpatient phase CPRPs for elderly patients after surgery in first time - that patients have stability in cardiovascular responses - is suggested.
Conclusions: According to the importance of CPRPs on improvement of elderly patients functional capacity and QOL, it is suggested to pay more attention in planning, processing and performing these programs.
